What's New with v2
- The speaker now includes a full-size insulative sticker to place on the back, preventing shorts against the metal speaker casing (see photo).
- By default, the amplifier mutes audio below ~25% of the volume wheel’s travel. This can be disabled by bridging solder point S1 (see photo).
Key Points
- Clean, adjustable audio for your Game Boy Advance—eliminate excessive volume and hissing.
- Adjustable max volume via onboard “TRIM” potentiometer.
- Pre-installed capacitors reduce speaker hum for clearer sound.
- Compatible with IPS screen and battery mods.
- Designed to work best with a 2W speaker to avoid distortion.
Operation
- The TRIM potentiometer controls peak volume.
- Adjust using a small flat-head screwdriver (2mm blade recommended, such as iFixit part #2).
- Turn TRIM clockwise to lower peak volume, anticlockwise to raise it.
- For discreet play, set the volume lower during installation (recommend starting with TRIM being set at a quarter turn clockwise).
- Pre-installed capacitors help minimize speaker hum.
- A 2W speaker is required to prevent distortion at high volumes (available from the product dropdown).
- Using the original speaker may cause slight distortion at max volume. Also, trim the OEM speaker tabs by about 1mm to improve fit and performance.
Installation Guide
YouTube install guide from JoeBleeps is here.
Steps:
- Remove the original speaker and flatten or desolder the old solder joints using side cutters or a soldering iron.
- Pre-tin the GBA motherboard solder points as shown in the installation photos.
- Solder the flex amp to the four marked locations—using a small amount of liquid flux will help create clean, strong joints.
- Solder the new speaker in place. Place included sticker on the back of the speaker to prevent shorting.
- Adjust the TRIM potentiometer with a small flat screwdriver to set your desired peak volume.

Retro Robot was fantastic in their communication, customer service and speed of dispatch.
The items were easy for me to install and the sound quality is excellent.
If required will certainly be back as a returning customer. Thank You
Nicely made and easy to install, massive improvement to the gba. However it would have been better if the speaker had pre-soldered wires, because if you are not very skilled at soldering and you keep the iron on the speaker for too long it will get damaged (happened to me unfortunately)
Great product well made. Good communication from seller
